Foothills Extension Phase 2A Design-Build - Monrovia, Calif.
This design-build project, in which Mass. Electric was a subcontractor to Foothill Transit Constructors, a Kiewit/Parsons JV, involved constructing 11.5 miles of Double Light Rail Track from the terminus of the existing Gold Line in Pasadena to Citrus Avenue in Azuza, California.
Mass. Electric’s scope of work included the complete systems package, involving train control and signaling, grade crossings, communications, station electrical, overhead catenary and traction power and all associated ductbanks.
There are six (6) at-grade passenger stations, 8 traction power substations, 13 miles of standard Overhead Catenary (OCS) and 15-miles of double messenger OCS. Work also included the shifting of 3.8 miles of an existing freight line and integrating the Frieght and Light Rail Signaling Systems. Additionally, the project had a large Maintenance and Operations Facility which includes a control center, approximately 25 tracks, 30 thousand feet of contact wire, 80 signals and 60 switch machines.
